MPC is staffed with fully qualified and experienced professionals offering Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Registered Massage Therapy, Chiropractic, Athletic Therapy and Kinesiology services.

Our Services
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy is the assessment, intervention and drug-free treatment for all health concerns related to movement and physical function. Physiotherapy can help with a wide range of conditions, from common orthopaedic ailments to neurological disorders.
Your treatment will begin with a full hour assessment in order to determine the source of your issue, and then the physiotherapist will prescribe a course of treatment that is specifically designed to help you meet your functional goals. Treatment includes manual therapy, and may also include electro-therapeutic modalities, such as TENS and IFC, therapeutic ultrasound, as well as acupuncture, and remedial exercise. Physiotherapists additionally provide great insight and education with regards to management and prevention of pain, and maintenance of good function.
The specialized services offered by physiotherapists on our team - Derek Debassige, Tracy Chandler, Justin Smal, and Alexa Tipper - include acupuncture, concussion rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, pelvic health, SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment), persistent pain education, and custom orthopaedic bracing.

CHIROPRACTIC
Chiropractic care is a hands-on, manual medicine discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractors are trained in providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints. For many conditions, such as low back pain, chiropractic care can be the primary method of treatment. In cases where a multi-disciplinary approach is advisable, our team will coordinate with each other to advise you of the best options for your recovery.
Our chiropractor – Dr. Jonathan Best – will begin your treatment with a full hour assessment in order to determine the source of your issue, and then then decide on a course of treatment that is specifically designed to help you meet your functional goals. MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage Therapy is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue and joint dysfunction and pain. Massage can help restore flexibility and range of motion as well as increase overall wellness and relaxation.
Massage treatment at our clinic can include myofascial release, acupuncture, electrotherapy (including therapeutic ultrasound, IFC or TENS), taping, joint mobilization, and cupping therapy. Our experienced Massage Therapists – Lisa Corbiere, Barclay Peltier, and Sara Law - also offer many specialized services such as craniosacral therapy, Thai massage, Indian head massage, and hot stone massage.

ATHLETIC THERAPY
Athletic Therapy is a health care profession that specializes in the prevention, assessment and care of musculoskeletal disorders especially as they relate to the pursuit of physical activity, or even simply the pursuit of moving well. A Certified Athletic Therapist utilizes contemporary rehabilitative techniques, therapeutic modalities, physical reconditioning and supportive strapping procedures to promote optimal healing and prepares the individual for safe reintegration into an active lifestyle.
Our Athletic Therapist - Ian Murray - is a Master level practitioner in MAT (Muscle Activation Technique). This is a specialized approach to the restoration of function, that is used to “jumpstart” the muscles in order for them to function with maximum efficiency.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational therapists are health care professionals who help people to resume or maintain participation in a variety of tasks – their jobs, leisure and social activities, getting around, caring for themselves and their home, and much more. Occupational therapists often work on a team with physiotherapists, but the two roles are distinct. Physiotherapists help people restore physical function; occupational therapists focus on how that function affects the ability to do the things that are important to them.
Our Occupational Therapist – Grace King – has taken on the important role of providing home care on Manitoulin for the Long Term Care/Home and Community Care departments on behalf of all First Nation communities on the island. She is additionally the OT providing school health support services to 4 First Nation school boards in the area.

Our patients access care through private coverage, MVA and publicly funded programs (both Primary Care and Episode of Care). PATIENT EXPERIENCE COORDINATOR - FULL TIME
About The RolE
Manitoulin Physiotherapy Centre is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated and reliable individuals with administrative experience and strong customer service skills to join our team. Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills and be able to multi-task in a busy office of health care practitioners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Providing a positive first point of contact for all interactions in person, on phone or by email
General duties: greeting visitors, answering phone, returning messages, booking appointments, preparing intake and other forms, correspondence by fax and email
Managing all information on an electronic medical record; working understanding of privacy legislation an asset
Billing to insurance companies and to patients, day to day financial interactions
Communicate efficiently with clinical staff, provide ongoing support
Experience with electronic medical records, and Apple operating systems is an asset
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Office administration background would be ideal. Health sciences-related background would be an asset, as would experience or training in hospitality administration.
