Sonya was born and raised in North Bay Ontario with family ties right here on Manitoulin Island. With her love and passion for physical activity, sport and exercise, Sonya pursued her University undergraduate degree at Nipissing University for an Honours Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (BPHE) with a minor in French.
Growing up, Sonya was the kid that played any and every sport she could, but her true love and passion was for hockey. Sonya played 14+ years of competitive girls’ hockey in North Bay and now loves to give back and help young athletes develop their skills on and off the ice, not only as players but individuals within their community. In High School, Sonya was a very successful shot put and discus thrower making it to OFSAA every year she competed. In her spare time, she enjoys Olympic Weightlifting and volunteering her time to help athletes achieve their goals in various sports, age groups, experience and knowledge.
Sonya also loves the outdoors and spending time with friends and family. The particular activities she enjoys are camping, hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, biking, paddle boarding, kayaking and of course spending any opportunity to lace up the hockey skates even if they’re her hockey roller blades. Sonya is thrilled to be a part of the MPC team and will be dedicated to learning and continuing her education in order to help individuals within the community.
